As Lead Graphic Designer for Monopoly: Cheaters Edition, I spearheaded the visual identity and branding for this rule-breaking twist on the classic. I was challenged to define a mood that felt rebellious and edgy while staying strictly rooted in the iconic Monopoly brand DNA.

A key part of this strategy was designing the package front to tell a cohesive story through the artwork. I depicted Mr. Monopoly (Rich Uncle Pennybags) in the act of stealing from the bank, establishing the game's "dishonor system" right at the first point of contact. To emphasize the high stakes, the design illustrates that if he is caught, he’ll go straight to jail—a concept physically represented by the handcuff unit visible through the package window, which physically "chains" players to the board during gameplay.

To reward long-time fans, I meticulously layered the scene with iconic Monopoly tokens and classic elements hidden throughout the artwork. These Easter eggs create a sense of discovery, ensuring that every time a player picks up the box, they find a new detail that ties this modern strategy game back to its legendary roots.

To honor the brand's heritage, I art directed the Cheat Card illustrations to meticulously mimic the iconic line art style of the original Chance and Community Chest cards. By recreating Mr. Monopoly’s classic poses and legacy linework within a new, edgy context, I maintained a sense of nostalgic authenticity while introducing the game's subversive new mechanics.

The illustration captures him mid-heist, hiding a fistful of money behind his back while holding a finger to his lips to shush the viewer. The illustration captures him mid-heist, hiding a fistful of money behind his back while holding a finger to his lips to shush the viewer. This visual narrative—with a trail of cash leading back to the bank—sets the high stakes: one wrong move leads straight to the handcuffs in the window and a trip to jail.
