Monopoly Pokémon

Project Overview

As the Lead Senior Graphic Designer for Monopoly: Pokémon, I spearheaded the visual evolution of this iconic collaboration from initial concept to final production. I served as the primary creative bridge to The Pokémon Company, building a high-trust partnership that allowed us to push the boundaries of the brand’s traditional aesthetic.

By winning the full confidence of their creative team, I was able to explore a bold new direction that prioritized fan immersion and brand authenticity. The result is a fully integrated IP experience; every component was designed to make players feel they are truly exploring the world and capturing Pokémon, resulting in one of the most cohesive and beautiful licensed editions to date.

To showcase the game’s stunning landscape art, I reimagined the iconic Monopoly board as an immersive journey through the Pokémon world. I designed the property and location track to function as a visual narrative, where each color-coded set represents a distinct elemental type and its unique environment.

By prioritizing sprawling, high-fidelity environmental art over traditional iconography, I ensured that every space on the board feels like a discovery. As players move around the track, the design reinforces the sensation of exploring and catching Pokémon, making the act of collecting properties feel like a true adventure through a fully integrated, beautiful ecosystem.

My goal was to move away from static graphics and instead create a vibrant, living landscape that captures the scale of the Pokémon world. I meticulously integrated every elemental type into the environment—from volcanic peaks and lush forests to crashing coastlines—ensuring that the center art felt like a cohesive ecosystem.

The biggest challenge was the balancing act: I needed to leave enough room for the essential mechanical elements. Carefully layering the UI, I created a clean, intuitive layout where your captured Pokémon "live" together in one cohesive space. This makes it incredibly easy to track your progress at a glance while ensuring the visual impact of the characters remains front and center.

This design choice allows for easy distinction at a glance as you navigate the board. By scattering these varied types throughout the track, it captured the true spirit of discovery—making every roll feel like a step into the tall grass to see what you’ll find next.
