Project Overview
As the Lead Senior Graphic Designer for Monopoly: Star Wars Dark Side Edition, I directed the entire creative lifecycle, from initial concept to the final shelf-ready product. My role involved high-level collaboration with the Lucasfilm team to ensure every reference and asset met their rigorous standards for authenticity. A defining feature of this project was the hand-painted art style, which provided a premium, artisanal feel to the iconic villains of the Star Wars galaxy. During the design phase, I proposed a strategic vision: a Light Side companion game designed with a mirrored layout. This concept allowed the two games to face each other perfectly when placed side-by-side, creating a unified "Force" display. Lucasfilm loved the pitch and that led us to Star Wars Light Side Edition.

By eschewing flat digital assets in favor of a rich, painterly texture, I achieved a cinematic depth that honors the grand scale of the Star Wars saga. Every character and reference was meticulously vetted alongside the Lucasfilm team to ensure the highest level of authenticity. The result is a high-end visual experience that captures the power and drama of the Sith, serving as the perfect anchor for the "side-by-side" dual-game concept I developed.

To achieve a seamless, integrated look, I moved away from static assets and instead developed a custom TIE Fighter brush in Photoshop. By "painting" the ships directly into the composition, I was able to control the flow, scale, and perspective of the fleet, blending them naturally into the hand-painted textures of the background. This bespoke technique allowed me to treat the ships as part of the artistry rather than an afterthought, adding a layer of cinematic motion that reinforces the premium, movie-collage feel of the final piece.

This bold use of color not only reinforces the Dark Side theme but also serves as a premium design thread that ties the entire package together. By treating the packaging as a 360-degree canvas, I ensured that the iconic red hue of the Empire’s most feared villain is the first thing a collector sees.
