Monopoly Marvel Flip

Project Overview

As the Lead Senior Graphic Designer for Monopoly: Marvel Flip, I spearheaded the creative vision for a game that required a radical departure from traditional design due to its unique "flipping" gameplay mechanics. My goal was to create a visual experience that felt as dynamic as the game itself, leaning into a high-vibe, vibrant "Spider-Verse" aesthetic that crackles with energy.

During the discovery phase, I drew inspiration from stylized Marvel poster art, which sparked the vision for a fully illustrated, neon-charged world. I developed a series of rapid-prototyped concepts that immediately resonated with the team, signaling we had found a "lightning in a bottle" direction. Working in close partnership with Marvel, I curated official assets and then developed custom, original artwork to expand the visual language across the entire project. The result is a stunningly vibrant, premium game that feels more like a piece of collectible pop art than a standard board game.

I directed the composition to be super vibrant and richly textured, using a "hero-first" approach that makes the packaging feel like it’s in constant motion. The centerpiece of the design is Miles Morales, who I positioned as if he is literally swinging right at the viewer, creating an immediate and engaging focal point. The neon-inspired color palette. By focusing on kinetic poses and bold, saturated hues, I ensured the cover perfectly reflects the fast-paced "flipping" nature of the gameplay, making it a standout piece of fully illustrated pop art.

To unify the diverse range of Monopoly: Marvel Flip characters, I developed a signature visual "DNA" that seamlessly blended existing Marvel assets with our original artwork. The challenge was making legendary heroes from different eras and artists feel like they belonged in the same universe. My breakthrough came during the exploration phase: I decided to style all characters with glowing white eyes and a subtle blue aura. This small but powerful detail acted as a "visual anchor," instantly transforming a collection of individual heroes into a cohesive, high-energy family.

For the Monopoly: Marvel Flip gameboard, I directed the creation of a series of hand-painted backgrounds designed to immerse players in a high-energy comic world. The primary challenge was ensuring that the environmental art—ranging from cityscapes to cosmic realms—felt consistent whether we were utilizing existing archival assets or developing entirely new illustrations.

To bridge these styles, I applied a sophisticated halftone pattern overlay across every background. This technique acted as a visual glue, pulling the varied artistic sources into a single, cohesive "illustrated" universe."
